How This Estimate Is Calculated

This calculator uses the enhanced ACA subsidy structure in effect through 2026 (American Rescue Plan / Inflation Reduction Act). Your premium tax credit is the difference between the benchmark Silver plan in your area and the maximum percentage of income you're expected to contribute, which scales from 0% at 150% FPL to 8.5% at 400%+ FPL.

What This Tool Doesn't Show

  • Plan-specific premiums (we estimate based on a typical benchmark actual carrier pricing varies)
  • Cost-Sharing Reductions (CSRs) on Silver plans, which lower your deductible and copays if income is below 250% FPL
  • State-specific subsidy enhancements (CA, NY, NJ, MA, RI, CO, WA all have additional state subsidies)
  • Tobacco-use surcharges
  • Whether the plan covers your doctors or medications
